The Colossal Collapse in Chicago

US Ryder Cup Team Blows Big Lead

It will go down as the biggest collapse in history by any Ryder Cup team! Sure, some will write it as the greatest comeback, but when you look at what really happened, and be honest with yourself, the truth points to a collapse. The phenomenal play by the US team on Friday and Saturday was not to be found on Sunday, particularly over the last two holes.

Santa Clarita Valley’s Alison Lee a Star at Junior Ryder Cup

By - Posted Sep 26, 2012

Our own Alison Lee does it again – the junior golf star from the SCV again represented her home town well, but more importantly, she was a top performer for our country! For the 8th time, a “junior” version of the Ryder Cup was held in Chicago at Medinah Country Club as a precursor to the main event. Juniors representing the US went up against similar juniors from across Europe in a two day event that ended yesterday. Alison was a key performer in the US victory by a score of 14.5 to 9.5.

Brandt Snedeker Takes it all Home!

Snedeker wins Tour Championship and FedEx Cup

Can you imagine what would be going through your head with 9, 5, 3 or even 1 hole to play, and on the table was $11.4M? How could you even pull the club back? With those sweaty palms, could you even hold the club? I was watching it live, and my hands were sweating. But obviously, Brandt Snedeker had it totally under control, as he rolled to a three shot win, and a wheelbarrow full of cash!

Use of Video in Golf Instruction – Key to Faster Improvement, but Must be Balanced

By - Posted Sep 11, 2012

It might just be folklore, but it has been said that until Jack Nicklaus reviewed his own swing on video, he did not accurately describe his move and swing. And that is one of the overall challenges with golf – you can’t see your own swing when swinging. That is why the advent of video has helped so many players of all skill levels advance and improve.

McIlroy – He’s the Real Deal

By - Posted Sep 5, 2012

Playing alongside Louis Oousthuizen on Saturday, Rory McIlroy showed tremendous composure. Louis proceeded to birdie 7 holes in a row, and 8 out of the first 10 holes in Saturday’s round. It was a beautiful display of both shotmaking and putting – he hit every green in regulation in that stretch. As they walked to the 11th tee, Rory was 6 shots behind at 13 under par. In essence, it seemed that Louie had lapped the field! But in looking at Rory during that stretch, he seemed unfazed by it, and somehow knew that he still had enough time to get back in the game.

Watney Wins and Ryder Cup Approaches

By - Posted Aug 28, 2012

The PGA Tour, and the professional golf business in general, is generating excitement at about the right time. The NFL and college football seasons are fast approaching, and will take over almost all the headlines in the next two weeks. Eventhough the baseball season is “heating up” with the Dodgers spending what looks like zillions on the players, and the Orioles (perennial doormat!) chasing down the Yankees, football will soon takeover. That being said, the PGA Tour is putting on a great show in the Fed Cup playoffs, and along with the drama of who gets picked for the Ryder Cup team, is making  it’s case for big time headlines.

Sergio Garcia Finally Wins Again

By - Posted Aug 21, 2012

It’s been four years since Sergio Garcia last won on the PGA Tour. The win this weekend in Greensboro at the Wyndham Championship was impressive from a variety of angles. He was tied for the lead after Friday, took the lead to bed Saturday evening, and then won by two shots on Sunday. As we have written time and time again this year, we have only seen a couple of players this year (ie. Rory at the PGA) take the lead before Sunday, and go ahead to win. His 66, 66 on the weekend was the second lowest shot, and he did it when he was in the lead – this is very impressive for Sergio. With what we have seen over the last few years, very few would have bet he would perform over the weekend like he did.
