Four Station Method

Scratch worked with Dr. Robert Duvall, DP, from the board of the Titleist Performance Institute, to create our fitness program. Whereas the program focuses on developing strength and balance with the juniors, the primary focus is on flexibility with the adults. Lastly, the instructors identify challenging movements in the swing of a member, and then incorporates exercises from the fitness program to support and improve the ability of the member to make that move. The fitness program is fully integrated into the overall training at Scratch.

Fitness

This program is designed to advance the coordination and strength of the junior golfer in the key muscle groups that relate most to golf. It also brings added focus to areas of movement needed to improve a particular golfer – different golfers often have different needs for moving the body in an efficient manner to best repeat a solid golf swing.

Short Game

Scratch worked closely with Rick Smith, a top-rated PGA instructor, to construct the curriculum for the short game area – chipping, pitching, lob shot and bunker play. Based on the level of the student, drills are taught to the students in the key areas of the short game that provide a solid foundation for advancing their proficiency. These are reinforced through hundreds of videos filmed by Rick that both explain and demonstrate the shots. The shots taken at the end of each training session are captured in the Scratch Skills Handicap System (SSHS). Read more about SSHS here.

Putting

The student trains on short, medium, long and lag putting along with straight putts, small break to big break putts, as well as uphill and downhill. A Rick Smith drill video is first viewed, and the students proceed to practice that drill. As they advance through the levels, the drills become more advanced as well.

Swing

Scratch has the most advanced golf simulators on the market that provide pinpoint accurate data on the ball flight of the student. By hitting into a simulator that is like a driving range or actual golf course, the student and instructor are able to immediately see both the ball flight and the actual data on that shot; from flight to direction to distance to ball speed to clubhead speed, etc., they know all aspects of that swing. In addition, the sim has a balance plate which provides a picture on the screen of how weight shifted in the swing and their overall balance – remarkable data.
