The LPGA Invades Scotland

As the best lady golfers in the world tee off in Scotland today. It marks the end of the British Open season? Ok, the “Open” season. Kind of begs the question. Why is it the “Open Championship” for the men, but the Ricoh Women’s British Open for the women?
I digress. Should be a good “British” Open either way. They are playing at the famed Carnoustie where they have been playing for over 500 years. No round more famous than Jean Van De Velde’s infamous final round debacle in the 1999 Open. If you haven’t seen it, you need to. It was golf drama at it’s highest level. A friend of mine was there the day he went back and played the hole again using only a putter. What a tragedy. I wonder if he was role playing in his head like I do. Playing himself of course. “Jean Van De Velde decides to lay up with an iron off the tee instead of using driver”. I bet he plays that decision in his head a hundred times a year. I don’t care what he tells us in interviews. It’s likely we will see drama again this week as well. The stage is set for another Carnoustie legend. I for one, will be watching. I love golf in the mornings.
